Program overview

Application is now open for the 9th round of Visual Resources Association Foundation (VRAF) Internship Award in visual resources and image management. Furthermore, the award provides financial assistance for graduate students taking on a career in visual resources and image management. The award gives, in total, $4,000 to support a period of internship in archives, libraries, museums, visual resources collections in academic institutions, or other appropriate contexts.

Announcement of winner: August 16, 2021

Time commitment: 200 Hours in total

Starting intake: Fall, winter or spring

Location: in the UNITED STATES but due to the unpredictable situation of COVID-19, the association and host institution may propose conducting the program remotely for the academic year of 2021-22 but will help provide resources for online collections for the program to go ahead.

Benefits

The award includes $3,000 for a period of internship in the above-mentioned fields and another $1,000 for intern’s professional development such as cost for attending the annual VRA conferences, other conferences or the Summer Educational Institute for Visual Resources and Image Management.

In addition, the internship includes one-year complimentary student membership in the association.

Eligibility criteria

It is open to students currently studying, or having completed within the last 24 months, a master’s program in library or information science, art history, architectural history, architecture, visual or studio art, museum studies, or another relevant field of study.

Candidates must have completed at least 10 credits of their graduate coursework prior to the application deadline, or present a corresponding combination of coursework and relevant experience in h/her field.

Although applicants need not be a US citizen or permanent residents in the US, they must select a US institution as their host.

More conditions

Applicants should apply after initiating a project with a specific collection and prospective supervisor. Those who submit projects that promote art historical or related visual cultural heritage research and scholarship will be given preference.
