The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.
World Urban Forum is a global marketplace on housing and sustainable urban development. It brings together a broad spectrum of actors from within and outside governments with cutting edge ideas, innovations, good practices, and solutions to the challenges of rapid urbanization, especially poverty and inequality, prosperity of cities and communities, social and environmental sustainability, and climate change. It is a non-legislative gathering of all actors of sustainable development including, member states, local and regional governments, the UN system, international organizations, private sector and non-governmental organizations, to dialogue, learn, network, and share experiences on cities and human settlements development. Our interns work as full members of the team, pursue projects that are designed to make a difference in the ERSKI, and have opportunities to learn about the United Nations with an overall perspective. We offer 5 internship opportunities in the area of Communication, partnerships, administration and Social Media.
The World Urban Forum internship is for 6 months.
In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel and access to UN premises. Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely for a part or the entirety of the internship. The work hours during the internship shall be determined based on individual discussion between the intern and the supervisor(s) taking into consideration the minimum requirements of the Organization and the time difference between the hosting office and the location of the intern
The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background; the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period.
Under the Supervision of WUF Coordination Office the intern will:
Assist the WUF Secretariat team in a variety of activities related to the World Urban Forum 11 preparation
Support for WUF branding, promotion, communication and advocacy on social media among other means of digital platforms
Support effective and continued communication with UN Habitat partners and prospective WUF attendees
Support outreach activities to mobilize national and local governments and other stakeholders towards the WUF11
Assist in follow up with focal points and substantive event organizers on finalization of concept notes and summary briefs among others
Draft and prepare written documents, reports, short memoranda and concept notes on topics designated by the WUF Coordinator
Support the coordinator in managing responses to inquiries arising from meetings and correspondence with Partners, member states, other stakeholders, and UN-Habitat staff c4myg2K CWdGXY
Support compilation of information for the website
Support interdepartmental engagement activities
Assist research and data collection on urbanization trends and progress on the implementation of the New Urban Agenda as well as global virtual and physical conferences
Backstop note taking/preparation of minutes of meetings on WUF
Perform any other tasks as may be assigned from time to time by the team.

Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
- Have graduated with Bachelor’s degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent
Be computer literate in standard software applications.
Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Preferred area of study: Graduate or post-graduate studies related to smart cities, data science, global affairs, journalism, economics, public affairs, digital transformation of government, open data, (digital) urban planning, architecture, smart mobility, design thinking, international relations, political science or related areas.

United Nations Considerations
According to article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter of the United Nations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity.
